BOTOX COSMETIC

Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable, manufactured by Allergan, Inc. Botox helps to reduce and soften the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles by temporarily causing them to relax. Botox has become a favorite and very popular product of women and men over the age of 21. It is no longer a secret between friends, in fact, we see many friend referrals to Nouvelle Vie spa. Groups of friends also enjoy having Botox Parties, where they all get injected together. Botox Parties are popular before special occasions, such as weddings and birthdays. If you have had Botox, you know exactly why you love it. If you never had Botox, don’t wait too long, the sooner you prevent your wrinkles from forming, the longer you will preserve your youthful appearance.

APPLICATIONS FOR BOTOX COSMETIC

ALTHOUGH ORIGINALLY APPROVED BY THE U.S. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF EYE AND MUSCLE SPASMS, BOTOX COSMETIC WAS QUICKLY RECOGNIZED FOR ITS COSMETIC VALUE. PROPERLY PLACED INJECTIONS OF BOTOX COSMETIC BLOCK NERVE IMPULSES SENT TO MUSCLES, WEAKENING THEM TO THE POINT WHERE THEY CANNOT CONTRACT, AND TEMPORARILY ELIMINATING MODERATELY SEVERE FURROWS AND LINES. BOTOX COSMETIC IS USED TO TREAT THE FOLLOWING: Forehead furrows Frown lines Crow’s feet Skin bands on the neck

BOTOX COSMETIC PROCEDURE & RESULTS

Using a very fine needle, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but some doctors choose to numb the area to be injected with ice packs or a topical anesthetic cream. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last up to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer. Injections should be given only by qualified medical professionals.

BOTOX TREATMENT OF HYPERHIDROSIS

HYPERHIDROSIS IS A COMMON CONDITION THAT INVOLVES EXCESSIVE SWEATING OF CERTAIN PARTS OF THE BODY, INCLUDING THE FACE, HANDS, FEET AND UNDERARMS. THOSE WITH THIS CONDITION OFTEN NEED PRESCRIPTION-STRENGTH ANTIPERSPIRANTS TO CONTROL SWEATING, AND MAY HAVE TO CHANGE CLOTHES FREQUENTLY OR AVOID WEARING CERTAIN FABRICS. Hyperhidrosis can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, which block the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, significantly reducing the amount of sweat produced. Most patients notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating in 4 weeks, with results lasting for more than 6 months. Although symptoms gradually return, results can be maintained with routine follow-up treatments.

Why do wrinkles form?
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors, including: aging, collagen depletion, elasticity or damage caused by free radicals. Another reason for wrinkle formation is due to muscles contracting and causing skin to fold during facial expressions, such as, frowning and smiling. Wrinkles that we see only during facial expressions, are called dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles can be prevented with use of Botox. Wrinkles that we see even when our face is at rest are called static wrinkles. Such deeply set wrinkles are now set in the skin and will improve with Botox over time, and prevent from further damage. These type of wrinkles may be improved with use of fillers.
What is Botox?
Botox is derived from botulinum toxin, which is a neuromodulator used to inject the area where temporary relaxation of the muscle is needed in order to decrease the movement, thus preventing formation of wrinkles and softening the appearance of existing wrinkles.
How does Botox work?
Botox works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to wrinkles and fold. It temporarily reduces muscle movement, which prevents the skin from wrinkling.
How do I know if I need Botox?
There is no right age to start treatment, but Botox is being recognized as preventative measurement, and if you start seeing faint lines on your face, then you may consider this treatment to avoid those lines getting deeper and more prominent. The best way to know is to schedule a consultation with a doctor and go over the areas of the face that bother you, at which point the doctor can determine whether Botox is the solution to address your concerns, or may recommend other options, or a combination of treatments. Come in for a free consultation with a Doctor.
Who can get Botox?
Adults, men and women, 21 – 65 years of age are candidates for the treatment, considering they don’t have any of the contraindications, which will be discussed with the doctor at the consultation.
How long does the treatment take?
Your doctor will perform a facial analysis, review the movement and strength of your muscle groups, and discuss your treatment goals to determine the appropriate treatment for you. Then, you will be prepared for the procedure, photographed for result comparison, and will be given a consent form to sign. The actual injection process takes about 5 minutes. After the procedure, you will be give post-treatment instructions for better results.
Will Botox Cosmetic make me look fake?
Botox is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed and trained. It is also important to talk to your doctor about the results you desire so that your expectations can be addressed.
When will I see results?
Most individuals will notice results starting to take effect within 3-5 days, however the full result is usually seen within 2 weeks. If you are not satisfied with the result after 2 weeks, you should schedule an appointment for an evaluation. At that point the doctor can help you decide whether more Botox is needed, or recommend additional treatments.
Does it hurt?
Some patients report that being injected with Botox feels like a pinch. Your doctor may use ice to numb the injection area prior to treatment. If you are concerned about discomfort, your provider may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment, however, this is unnecessary and isn’t usually needed at all.
What are the common areas that can be treated with Botox?
Most common cosmetic treatment areas include: Frown lines, Forehead, and Crows feet. Non-cosmetic treatments may include Migraine Headaches and Hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating).
Is there any downtime after my treatment?
There is absolutely no downtime and you may return to your regular duties immediately.
What are the most common adverse effects associated after Botox injections?
After your treatment, you might experience and see very mild swelling, redness and tenderness where the product was injected. Bruising is unlikely, but if occurs, is usually very small and only lasts a few days. A topical arnica cream may be suggested, along with cover-up make up. (Bruising depends on many factors, including your lifestyle and medications, as well as doctor’s technique. It is always recommended to avoid any blood thinners, including Aspirin, Vitamin K, and Alcohol. Doctor may recommend taking Arnica prior to injections. At times, there is a chance that a less visible vessel may be in the injected site, and may be hard to avoid.)
What are the alternatives to neurotoxins?
Depending on the area, if the wrinkle is the result of muscle contraction, then unless the muscle is injected with neurotoxin to prevent the movement, the contraction will continue to create and deepen the winkles. There is no substitute for neurotoxins, however there are alternatives which may still improve the appearance of the wrinkles. Skin care products, fillers, skin tightening modalities and laser resurfacing. Doctor will help you choose which treatment or a combination of treatments would yield best results.
